The Shepherd's Desk will bring you monthly encouragement that provides information concerning current, local, national, and international events. Staff pastors will contribute regularly to help you recognize God's will in these events. It is our belief that we are in the "Last Days" prior to the second advent of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To this end we believe that we must be aware of the "signs of the times", and encourage souls in preparation of His coming. This is not intended to be Biblical prophecy, but a word of comfort to His saints in these troubling times.
Bishop Nelson has been involved in the study of God's word for over twenty six years. In that time his heart for encourging the people of God has grown in proportion to Christ grace towards him. Bishop Nelson and the leadership staff at F.O.T.S. thank those who love the Father. We would appreciate your comments and suggestions at any time. Please feel free to use the visitor's information link for this. The definition of the word politic is crafty or cunning. If one were to look up these words, they would translate to deceptive and underhanded. How blind have we become when those who vie for the highest office in the land can brazenly engage their trade dressed in their true colors?
As the two nominees play with house money, talking about hundreds of billions of dollars as if it were theirs, the average Joe can barely even fantasize about such numbers. It is almost ludicrous how an entity such as the United States government, which generates of itself not one cent of income, strips the bottom of our pockets through illegal and unjust taxation.
In most elections, we are reduced to selecting the lesser of two evils. There are Machiavellian forces behind the throne that we cannot see. The argument has always been that we enjoy the greatest, most stable government the world has ever known; that our system of capitalism and our free market economy has created wealth beyond compare.
Well, if that is the ultimate goal that is correct. But whom has all of this wealth been created for? Why is the divide between the haves and the have-nots so disproportionate? What promise can the candidates give me that will ease my mind concerning my children's future or my retirement?
If only this election was about what is right for America. If only everyone's platform was given equal time and the messages we hear did not end with "Paid for by the committee to elect..." If only it were not just about the money.
Unfortunately, as important a time in our history as this is, when we face wars on at least two fronts abroad and dance with financial disaster at home, the process to elect our next leader has found its place on the color line.
Right or wrong, there are many who on that basis alone will not be able to cross that line even if the country depends on it. When we should be celebrating unprecedented historic achievements by women and minorities, we instead are staring down the barrel of the most dangerous, unpredictable times we have ever faced as a nation.
Even as we face such challenges, the average Joe's still must consider his family, his peace and his security. What is the thing he loves most, because that thing is his treasure. In the face of this entire calamity, we offer some advice from Him who has never been wrong.
He tells us, "Do not lay up treasure for ourselves on earth because moths and rust will ruin it and thieves will steal it; but to lay up treasure for ourselves in heaven where neither moths, rust nor thieves can ruin." Matthew 6:19-20 He has also declared, "Where our treasure is there will our heart be also." Luke 12:34
It may be a great leap for some to "Trust in him who is able to keep you from falling" but how has the world worked for you? As we go into these times of uncertainty, would you rather be comforted in believing that our ten trillion dollar debt will be paid or that our government will balance a trillion dollar budget deficit?
Would you rather believe that our energy problems will really be solved by either of these candidates and petroleum will stay below two dollars a gallon when we use the most and pretty much have the least? Are you believing that your salary will keep up with inflation and the American dream of two cars in every garage has not turned its back on you?
Friends, these things I have described and many more benefits of being an American that you will never see again take a lot more faith to believe than God. There was a man the likes of which I wish were in this election that said, "I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. He is merciful, and lends, and his seed is blessed. Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell forever more. For the Lord loves judgment, and forsakes not his saints; they are preserved forever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off. The righteous shall inherit the land and dwell in it forever. Psalm 37:25-29
Whomever you may choose as your President; let him not become your king. Do not let those who practice politics reside in your minds and hearts. I know that history is now being made but know you that the future has already been declared by the one who establishes kingdoms and tears them down.
Join the winning ticket. JESUS CHRIST THE LORD.
